KONFLUENT PEDAGOGY

My background as a top athlete, international coach and and an education as a psychotherapist enables me to provide a unique set of services.

I employ this combination of experience and education both in my work with individual practitioners and groups. My approach can be called "Performance Development with a Relational Perspective" where gestalt theory and confluent pedagogy is included as a basis. It's a lot about meeting the athlete in his or her half of the field - this helps the athlete to not feel alone, It provides them instead with the support to create a good and mentally healthy life at the top level.

As a top athlete, Olympic participant and EM-winner in shooting, I early began to look for solutions to find out how to get optimise my shooting through mental training and cope with competitive pressure.

Early in my studies at Norwegian School of Sport Sciences, I very quickly understood that I wanted to understand more about technique and mental training.
During my time as a professional athlete, I was frustrated that I became too excited and uneasy in competitions, I experienced negative thoughts and I focused too much on results. Therefore I started looking for solutions to find out how I could handle pressures pre- and during competitions. I learned that it was necessary to increase my skills, especially when it came to technique and mental training. As a result, Willy Railo became my mental trainer. We focused on factors such as pulse, physiological reactions under pressure, mindset and tension / relaxation. We worked together in the study period and tested progressive relaxation, autogenous training and inner dialogue.

I experienced very positive results by adding technical and mental training into each session. As a result, I set a Norwegian record and performed better on the national team.

Eventually, I also sought contact abroad to learn the techniques of international shooters. In particular, I was keen to optimize shooting positions and learn how to best find good stability and balance in the least amount of time. For 4-5 years I trained a lot in Germany and participated in gatherings with the national team. I became European champion in 1981 after living and preparing at the Wiesbaden shooting school before the championship. Before the Los Angeles Olympic Games, I also trained in an inspiring and good environment in Germany.

In parallel with my sports career, I got an education as a coach.
Here, the experiences became useful:
Technical training, mental training, motivational factors, close follow-up and coach support were important elements I took with me in my new role.

After completing my career as a professional shooter, I graduated and achieved my ISSF-A certification (International Shooting) as the first Norwegian rifle coach.

As a coach, I have worked both with national teams and individual practitioners - and I have helped get medals in both categories. I find great joy in working with young athletes, lower level practitioners and coaches. My perspective and my way of working are nevertheless the same!

A GESTALTICAL APPROACH
AS A TOOL

My time as an athlete and my ISSF education gave me a strong theoretical starting point as a coach, but I eventually saw a need to develop a more individual and relationship-based competence. I found this perspective through an education in coaching at Norway's Gestalt College.

Coaching is a dialogue between a professional coach and coachee. The dialogue is based the current situation, goals and dreams. By using advanced techniques, based on gestalt psychological theory, I help you see things in a different perspective and thus make them focus on opportunities and choices. As a coach I work practically aimed towards the sport in general, specific exercises, or set goals the client wants fulfilled.
